Does the MRO get a copy of the CCF from the clinic?

Yes, after completing a drug test collection, the clinic is supposed to send a copy of the Custody and Control Form (CCF) directly to the Medical Review Officer (MRO). The MRO cannot verify or report the test result until they receive this copy of the CCF.

Here is how the CCF is distributed:

  • The CCF is a multi-part form used to document the entire chain of custody for a drug test specimen.
  • The collector at the clinic is responsible for ensuring the CCF is filled out correctly during the collection process.
  • Once the collection is complete, the collector distributes the various copies of the CCF to the appropriate parties.
  • Copy 2 (MRO Copy): The collector faxes or electronically transmits this copy to the MRO within 24 hours or the next business day.
  • Copy 1 (Lab Copy): This copy is sealed and shipped with the specimen to the testing laboratory.
  • Copy 4 (Employer Copy): The collector sends this copy to the employer’s Designated Employer Representative (DER).
  • Copy 5 (Donor Copy): This copy is given to the employee or donor.

The MRO uses their copy of the CCF to review the laboratory results and confirm that all procedures were followed correctly. This review helps to identify any fatal or correctable flaws in the testing process and ensures the integrity of the test.
