What is DQ and why is it critical to have DQ File for a driver for onboarding

DQ or Deriver Qualification file is a list of documents that a TRucking Company must have before onboarding a driver.

Due to the genuine danger that can come from large trucks, it’s absolutely vital to know that your drivers are capable of doing the job – and that’s not just good advice; it’s the law.  Under Federal Rule 391, anyone employing professional drivers operating vehicles over 10,000 pounds must have all documents listed under DQ list published by DOT.

It is very important that a trucking company has at least the following to meeting DQ requirements :

  • Drug Testing Related:
    • Proof of Consortium for the company and driver enrollment
    • Pre-employment Drug Test report
    • Pre-employment Query report
  • Driving Record
    • Motor Vehicle Record  (MVR): an official document from a state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) detailing your driving history
    • PSP or Preemployment Screening Program is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) report containing a commercial driver’s 5-year crash and 3-year roadside inspection history
  • DOT Physcial or Medical
  • Employment Verification Requests for Previous Employers and their Response

Depending on cmopany HR policy, the company may want to conduct the following tests and keep document for record

  • Criminal Background check
  • Employment Verification
  • I9 and E-verify as proof of employment eligibility
