According to an article published in American Transportation Research Institure, January 2025 here is an interesting tidbit of information oin taxes paid by Michigan Trucking Insdutry.
- Michigan’s trucking industry paid $901 million in federal and state roadway taxes — that’s 23% of all taxes owed by Michigan motorists, despite trucks representing only 7% of vehicle miles traveled in the state.
- A typical five-axle tractor-semitrailer combination paid $9,672 in state highway user fees and taxes over and above the typical taxes paid by businesses in Michigan.
- Trucks only travel 6.2 mllion miles on public roads, while the total miles driven by all motorists is 95.9 million miles.
